Paul de Launay

Artist • Musician • Educator / An Old World American

Paul Louis de Launay

Paul Louis de Launay’s story is a trans-Atlantic tale of his journey from poverty to prominence as he persevered through grief to achieve a life exhibiting faithfulness despite betrayal.
• Born in 1878 into poverty in Paris, he was destined to earn France’s two highest commendations for civilians: the Ordre des Palmes Académiques and the Légion d’Honneur.
• Beginning his schooling in Europe, he rose to become a revered college professor in the United States.
• For decades considered one of the top three preeminent American concert pipe organists, his renowned career evaporated when he was displaced by modern technology.
• Marrying three times, losing one wife to death, another to divorce, he raised two families while proving himself a consummate artist, musician and educator.

“His concerts with 16 pianists performing simultaneously on eight pianos
was innovative and impressive to audiences.”
